I've listened to about half of this so far. Really thought-provoking: he's not just against homework, standardized tests, and grades, but he makes a case for authentic learning and assessment.

Hypothesis Testing

As an educator fighting for student-directed learning, I'm a big fan of Alfie Kohn. Teachers in traditional classrooms have been acting in such contradiction to the research for so long. If educators only take away only one idea from this video, I would hope it's the talk (at 14:10) about hypothesis testing rather than immediately trusting experience.

Thanks for your comment,

Thanks for your comment, Chris. I think a good way to start a riot in a faculty meeting would be to mention his point that there is no research that links improved academic achievement with homework!
